Johann Moolman was born 1950, grew up and was educated in Johannesburg. Tertiary education received from the then Johannesburg College of Art (University of Johannesburg) and Saint Martin's College of Art, London.

Johann Moolman's academic career spanned a period of twenty years; he was a full time lecturer at the Johannesburg College of Art, University of South Africa and University of the North West as the Head of Department for Sculpture. He has also lectured part time at the University of Pretoria and the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg.

Moolman has for the past seventeen years worked as an independent artist in Groot Marico, North West Province. He specialises in sculpture and drawing.

Moolman's work is represented in various public museums, corporate collections and private collections. His work is also represented in private collections in England, America, Germany and Australia.
