Mike Mawdsley
"Born in Salisbury, Rhodesia in 1958, I moved to South Africa at the age of 3 and went to Bryanston Primary and High School. I moved to Durban, KZN in 1974 qualifying and working for 35 years as a goldsmith.
12 years ago, I got tired and bored with jewellery, and, going with my heart, started doing table-sized sculptures. I then moved to the KZN Midlands, where I now reside on Terlings Farm, Balgowan belonging to the Family of the late Helen Suzman. I was fortunate to meet Dali Tambo of the NHP two and a half years ago and received commissions to do life-size sculptures of Chief Dalasile, Xhosa Chief of the Quati Clan and the great King Mzilikazi "bull elephant" of the Matabele.
