Louis Olivier
Olivier is a Johannesburg based sculptor. His art explores the condition and existence of man, and the question of the afterlife and mortality. He works in various media such as sculpture, drawing and installation.
Olivier has practised as a full-time artist since 2001, since making a career change from Information Technology. In his work, he uses characteristics of the human figure as a type of a boundary, in some instances limiting and in others emancipating. The artist has done corporate commissions for Sasol and Rand Merchant Bank. He created the Sandton Benchmark Project which consists of two life size bronze figures sitting on a public bench.
In 2009, Olivier formed part of the Artspace Mentorship Programme and was mentored by established artist, Wilma Cruise.
