Celia Wilmot
"My parents left South Africa for England in the 1970s for political reasons. I was subsequently born near Glastonbury, England, on 2 December 1976. We returned as a family in the late 1980s in support of the imminent positive change in the country.
Back in South Africa, I grew up in the Hills of Shongweni, KZN, in a home where both my parents are artists. Encouraged with this as a background, I have created sculpture and art my whole life. It really is in my bones.
Upon moving to Jo'burg in 2004, I taught art & sculpture at Holy Family College in Parktown. Since 2006, I co-formed, own and run a sculpture and art studio, Space Alchemy, in Johannesburg, with my business partner Carl Maritz. Our employed junior sculptors are Bongani Nyoni, Richard Makhuva and Hloai Mahlope."
