Phil Minnaar, was one of South Africa's top sculptors and world renown for his monumental works at Sol Kerzner's Lost City. He was sculpting portrait busts of General Horatio Herbert Kitchener, Sir Redvers Buller and Lord Frederick Sleigh Roberts augmenting the already existing series of busts of Boer Generals.

Phil Minnaar had been sculpting for 25 years and had done some 110 portrait busts of famous South Africans. Some of the most beautiful busts made by this artist are those of De Wet, De la Rey, Beyers, Leyds, Paul Kruger, Steyn, Reitz, Emily Hobhouse and Danie Theron.

Phil Minnaar sadly passed away in March 2014.
