Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1956 he obtained a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Fine Arts in 1979 (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University). He worked in the Sculpture Department of the SANDF for a period of six years. Thereafter he was employed by the University of Pretoria, first as a technical assistant and later became a lecturer in the Fine Arts Department as well as a lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology in the Department of Entertainment Technology.

Prior to 2012 his career as a sculptor was sporadic, taking part in group exhibitions on average once every 4 years whilst working full-time as a lecturer and running a small manufacturing business. Throughout his adult life he has been involved with sculpture or 3D object production in one way or another.

As of 2012 he decided to commit himself to sculpture full-time. In his own words: "Once again I'm able to meet and work with like-minded people, sharing ideas and work methodology etc. So far it's been a fun and an amazing experience. I don't care much for accolades as such; it's more about the experience of making sculpture and, in a very selfish way, pleasing myself. If my work happens to please you it's an absolute bonus."

His skills as an artist and sculptor includes drawing, painting, terracotta, bronze cast investment, sand casting, ceramic shell and includes the complete process of fettling and MIG/TIG welding etc. He is also skilled in mould making, from plaster and fibreglass to silicon and urethane, as well as clay sculpting, wood carving, teaching and studio management.
